Workstation Requirements

Operating System
The EMS application is robust and will efficiently operate on any operating system listed below.
  • Microsoft Windows 2000
  • Microsoft Windows XP
  • Microsoft Windows Vista

Below are operating systems that are no longer supported. However, arrangements can be made to run EMS on one of these.
  • Microsoft Windows 95
  • Microsoft Windows 98
  • Microsoft Windows 98 SE (Second Edition)
  • Microsoft Windows ME
  • Microsoft Windows NT

RAM
  • Because the EMS system is written using an up-to-date relational database, it does not require much memory to run efficiently. The minimum required by your operating system is sufficient to run the EMS software. 128 MB is the minimum required to run Windows 2000 or Windows XP and the amount required by Windows Vista depends on the version.

Hard Drive space
  • Your hard drive should always have 100 MB or more free to run your computer efficiently
  • The space required for the EMS application will depend on the amount of data you store. The application requires 45 MB to run. We recommend that you have at least 100 MB free to allow for large amounts of data.

Processor
  • Recommended 500 MHz or greater for fast, smooth operation

Printer for Check Printing
  • Laser printer – HP printers are the most commonly used and we don’t recommend any smaller than the HP 1300. It is important to get a printer that is appropriate for your office’s usage.
  • MICR toner – This is required by the banks so the checks can be scanned through their system.

Checks for Check Printing
  • Blank check stock – our current formats print 3 checks per page or 1 check with stub(s)
    • When ordering 3 checks per page, they need to have the extra 1/2” stub at the bottom of the page
  • All MICR encoding is printed by the EMS software
    • We have a format that will print on pre-printed checks, but we strongly advise against this method. It is easy for the check numbers to be off if the paper is not loaded correctly or if there is a printer jam.

*NOTE - If you are using pre-printed checks, the system can be configured to print on your check format with any printer.
